Environment setting, Quality of Professors/Lecturers, Curriculum and Value were the published evaluation criteria the judges used to evaluate the finalists.

"We are honoured to have been recognised at the World Gourmet Summit (WGS) 2017 as the "Hospitality Institution of the Year (Regional)", said Mae Ho, Executive Director / CEO of BERJAYA UCH. "With this award, BERJAYA UCH is further poised to be a leader in hospitality education at both national and international levels. We share the same values with the WGS by focusing on nurturing food and beverage talents in Asia. With our BERJAYA immersion methodology wherein the students learn by doing, we have also worked tirelessly to provide international exposure for our students by bringing renowned chefs such as Gordon Ramsay, Chuck Hughes, Emmanuel Stroobant, Tarek Taylor, Alvin Leung (Three Michelin Star restaurant - Bo Innovation), Martin Yan, Hide Yamamoto and most recently, Anna Olson. These collaborations have made us the most visited institution of higher learning in Malaysia, thus providing a strategic value of our students".

"On another note, being an exclusive member of Institut Paul Bocuse Worldwide Alliance in Malaysia has numerous benefits for our students, by being exposed to the multi-cultural world-class gastronomic education. It further enhances the learning curve for our students not only through the appreciation of their culinary heritage but also through cross cultural promotion of gastronomy, culture and education, built on Institut Paul Bocuse Worldwide Alliance's values of Trust, Respect and Commitment."

"It is my personal belief that to be the best, we must associate ourselves with the best, and this is what we have always strived to ensure that we provide here at BERJAYA UCH. It is our belief and vision that BERJAYA graduates, after having been groomed in our institution, will be able to gain recognition for themselves and their future careers as global professionals. We are grateful to the other institutions and industry partners who collaborate with us which help us to provide opportunities to our students due to our international and regional networks,"
Ho pointed out.

A total of 39 awards were handed out at a ceremony attended by about 300 guests comprising of both local and international industry professionals. Organized by Peter Knipp and supported by the Singapore Tourism Board,  this is the 17th year for the awards held concurrently with a gastronomy festival in its 21st edition.
